Renew America's Promise for Good Jobs and a Strong Economy

Seven years of fiscal mismanagement by the Bush-Cheney Team has squandered the surplus left to them by a Democratic administration. They’ve driven far too many Americans into debt and their policies are putting a real squeeze on the middle-class.

Darius will fight for economic discipline and accountability. It’s time to bring budgets to Washington that get our nation out of the red and into the black. It’s also time for America’s taxpayers to get something for our money other than paying interest to foreign nations. Instead of paying that interest, Darius believes we can find new ways to fund health care, invest in our schools and cut our property taxes to the bone.

Darius will fight so more people will be able to realize the American Dream of homeownership. He pledges to find – and fight for – every dollar to bring back funds for economic development and infrastructure improvements. This will create jobs and bring about a better quality of life for everyone.

Darius will work tirelessly to secure funding for economic development. And he will fight to both keep and create jobs here in the Capital District. Darius will forge an innovative economic agenda that focuses on education, job training and keeping our workforce strong. He supports public-private partnerships that will stimulate our economy, like the development of the Luthur Forest Technology Campus in Malta where Advanced Micro Devices recently committed to building a $3.2 billion dollar computer chip manufacturing plant. In addition to the construction jobs the project will create, the plant is expected to employ over 1,400 workers. Another example is the Watervliet Arsenal Partnership – which will use federal investment to transform 100 acres on into a high-tech business park. This could lead to 1,500 new private-sector jobs.

In Congress, Darius will be a friend to labor and will fight big business when they are unsafe or unreasonable. He will work to create green jobs, tech jobs and the cutting-edge jobs of the 21st century.

Darius believes in the importance of ensuring that everyone is able to reap the benefits of rapidly-advancing technology, not just the privileged or the few. That’s why he supports initiatives such as bringing broadband internet access to underserved communities. Darius also supports net neutrality, so small businesses and working families can enjoy the same access to the internet as the big corporations, guaranteeing a level playing field online.
