Education is the key to America maintaining its competitive advantage in this 21st century world. Darius will fight for our children so they’re free to learn in public schools – safely, securely and with the best chance to get ahead in life.
Darius believes its time for us all to work together – parents, teachers, elected officials and the community – to find solutions to fix our common problems. For example, the Bush Administration’s “No Child Left Behind” program has failed by “teaching to the test,” taking away resources from the best and the brightest students and leaving property taxpayers holding the bag for its unfunded mandates. Darius will work to reform the program.
Darius will stand up for our children so they can lead happy and healthy lives and be provided a quality, affordable education. He supports higher pay for our teachers, as well as incentives and recruiting efforts to attract and retain an expanded pool of talented educators. As a father, Darius knows how critically important it is to invest in early-learning and lifelong learning. He will fight to give our kids the best learning environment from K-12 and give them the best chance to go on to college and get ahead.
Darius will lead the fight to cut college costs for middle-class families from Rensselaer to Gloversville. He’ll stand up for our students so they can receive a top-notch higher education without oppressive student loans that choke their financial future. Darius will fight to stop the region’s “brain drain” and work to keep our best and brightest here in the Capital District once they graduate. He’ll work to make sure that students are exposed to real-life learning and taught skills that transfer to emerging technology jobs. Together, we can take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that technology is creating to keep our children in the region with good quality jobs.
